Opening June 30: The Telephone Exchange Building: 100 Years in the Making, an exhibition of rare telephones belonging to local collectors Nancy A. Davis and Mark Berghold. The exhibition will be presented in AMEICO’s contemporary Design Store & Gallery located inside the historic Telephone Exchange Building of New Milford, originally built by the Southern New England Telephone Company in 1917–18. Brooklyn-based artist Lesley Dill’s work reflects the poetry, prose, and declaration of early New England figures such as John Brown, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Anne Hutchinson, Sojourner Truth and Walt Whitman. Esther Howland and the Valetine's Day Card in America
You might notice the heart at the center of the Seal of Worcester, Massachusetts on Valentines Day and though the “Heart of the Commonwealth” pre-dates any connotation with the day, it was Worcester native Esther Howland who first popularized the Valentine’s Day Card in the United States

The Boston Festival of Films from Japan
The Boston Festival of Films from Japan runs February 1, 2018 – February 28, 2018 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Featuring the live-action manga adaptation Blade of the Immortal , the 100th feature film from provocative and prolific director Takashi Miike, & the timely documentary Resistance at Tule Lake (2017), which chronicles a 1943 uprising at a Japanese concentration camp in California. The festival kicks off on February 1 with a free screening of the anime Your Name (2016), a film with gorgeous imagery and deep emotional resonance that quickly became one of the most popular films of all time in Japan.

The Great Boston Molasses Flood of 1919
On January 15, 1919 a large storage tank containing molasses burst in Boston's North End unleashing a huge wave of sticky destruction. A small plaque on Commercial Street commemorates the disaster.
Molasses, waist deep, covered the street and swirled and bubbled about the wreckage. Here and there struggled a form — whether it was animal or human being was impossible to tell....
